The profound impact American pop culturePopular Culture In A New Age by Marshall W. Fishwick (Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Director of the American Studies and Popular Culture Programs, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia) is an amazing and informative look at the profound impact American pop culture and American technology has on ordinary people's lives, both within and without America's borders. From celebrity obsessions, to black popular culture, to carnivals, different facets of America's trendiest activities and beliefs are carefully scrutinized in this straightforward, no-nonsense, extremely fascinating account. Of special note are the chapters "Popular Culture: The Beggar at the Gate of Our Public Schools"; "From Humbuggery to Hype"; and "Faith Takes a New Face". Enhanced with Notes, a bibliography for further reading, an index, Popular Culture In A New Age is highly recommended for Contemporary American Popular Culture Studies supplemental reading lists and academic reference collections.

Popular studies of nineteenth century poets

Dre's Boy Knows His Byron, Yo.When I came across this monograph at our club I was astounded, not only by the identity of the author, but also by the great erudition displayed in his prose. All of the greats are covered with scholarly care, including Shelley, Byron, Whitman, Wordsworth, Keats, and Longfellow. Now I'm anything but a fan of the "rap," the "hip-hop," or the "rhythm and blues," but having seen Mr. Mather's cerebral side I now take a more interpretative view of his music. What is "Drug Ballad" but a reference to Carroll's narcosis? Or "Bee-yatch Please II" but a parody of Tennyson's notorious misogyny? You may write him off as a thick-witted, violent hoodlum, but I now know that the REAL Slim Shady is a thoughtful man of letters.

Exceptional WorkThis book is the work of two very bright scholars who live near the Marshall Space Flight Center. The work is well written and thorough. I found the authors investigation of the Challenger accident and its aftermath particularly well done. I highly recommend this book.

Prayer Book Parallels: The Public Services of the Church Arranged for Comparative Study
Published in Hardcover by Church Publishing (April, 1990)
Average review score:

The StandardThis book is the definitive standard of careful analysis in liturgical research. Presented in parallel columns, comparison among the various editions of the American Book of Common Prayer is made simple and rewarding. Seeing the texts in a reproduction of their published typographies is a delight. This book is a vital reference, especially handy for all priests, but valuable for anyone who loves the Prayer Book. The addition of notes on the liturgical reform process make the book complete as well as enjoyably informative.

The Prayers of Peter Marshall
Published in Paperback by Chosen Books Pub Co (May, 1985)
Average review score:

Prayers by a man who knows God!This book of prayers has been one of my favorites since my discovery in 1975. It never grows old -- especially his prayer for all of us in a hurry -- who worship a Jesus who was NEVER in a hurry!

Precalculus with Unit-Circle T Rigonomet
Published in Hardcover by West Publishing Company (January, 1999)
Average review score:

The best math book I've seen--period.This is THE math book for those preparing for the calculus or (like me) revisiting the subject. The book is clear, concise, and stands up well to heavy use. Additionally, the book has tons of examples; contains sections A & B for each chapter. The 'A' section is all that is necessary to continue to calculus, but 'B' will enhance learning if you choose to delve deeper. The study guide that accompanies the book is absolutely excellent--an average student like me can go through the whole book without an instructor if aided by the study guide.

Precious in the Father's Sight
Published in Hardcover by Fleming H Revell Co (May, 1997)
Average review score:

Precious in the Father's SightThis pocket devotional is a wonderful way to start the day! Each page lists a topic with a Bible verse and a thought from Catherine Marshall. It has been so popular in my women's Bible study that almost every woman has a copy (or wants one). I like it because each devotion is short and always seems to fit whatever it is that I am facing that day.
